Hollywood must be looking a tad quiet right now; the 70th Cannes Film Festival is currently taking place, so the French Rivieria is revelling in its annual 12-day dose of fame as the world’s thespians descend upon the town. When Hollywood’s denizens call, glamour abounds. We take a look at the jewellery masterpieces spotted on the red carpet, beginning with Chopard’s creations. The brand, with its historic ties to the festival, dominated the red carpet and made multiple appearances on many an A-lister’s ears, neck, and wrists. Here are the seven celebrities that stole the show not just with their outfits, but their jewellery pieces.

1. Michelle Yeoh
Dressed by: Chopard
Chinese Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh turned up at the premiere of Nelyubov (Loveless) by Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev in a bold statement necklace from Chopard’s 2017 Red Carpet Collection. An impressive 3586.52 carats of black spinels make up the necklace, accompanied by sapphires, diamonds, opals, tsavorites, amethysts, and a single large black opal set on 18k white gold and titanium.. It’s not very often black jewellery turns up on the red carpet, but Yeoh’s bold choice was the perfect accessory for her edgy black and white Dior dress. Completing her look was a bracelet from Chopard’s High Jewellery Collection in 18k white gold set with 44.50 carats of diamonds.
2. Adriana Lima
Dressed by: Chopard
Adriana Lima was also spotted at the Nelyubov premiere, dripping in diamonds – 163.85-carats of pear-shaped ones glittering in a necklace of 18-carat white gold from Chopard’s High Jewellery Collection. This was worn with a pair of diamond stud earrings and a white Naeem Khan gown. The outfit was undoubtedly timeless and beautiful, but it also held unintended comedy. The gown was a wedding dress from Naeem Khan’s bridal collection, and the movie Lima was going to watch had a title that translated to “Loveless" in English and was about a couple’s divorce. Are we reading too much into things?
3. Elizabeth Olsen
Dressed by: Chopard
Olsen turned what was a pair of rather conventional diamond earrings into an unusual fashion statement by wearing both earrings on one ear. The 18-carat white gold earrings with 7.91 carats of diamonds were the perfect accessory for her dusty pink sequin gown by Miu Miu. It’s common to see dresses with plunging necklines paired with necklaces on the red carpet, but since this dress was already sparkling with sequins, Olsen did right to keep her jewellery to the bare minimum.
4. Cara Delevingne
Dressed by: De Grisogono
It’s hard for a girl to pull off a shaven head anywhere, and even harder on the red carpet. But Cara Delevingne, who had recently shaved her tresses off for a movie in which she plays a cancer victim, made the look work for her with an edgy combination of a black Moschino gown, dark lipstick and black jewellery by De Grisogono at the Moschino X Magnum party at Cannes. Around her neck was a black leather, white gold and diamond necklace from De Grisogono’s Allegra collection and on her fingers, multiple rings in the same black and white colour scheme featuring white gold and white diamonds with black ceramic or black onyx.
5. Elle Fanning
Dressed by: Tiffany & Co.
A unicorn was spotted on the red carpet at Cannes. Elle Fanning turned up at the debut of her latest film, The Beguiled, in a quirky Vivienne Westwood creation featuring a hand-painted unicorn and heart shapes on the train, all in shades of red and pink. It’s a design that’s wonderfully age-appropriate on 19-year-old Fanning, but would look too cutesy on anyone older. On her fingers were not one, not two, but three rings from Tiffany totalling SG$41,500. Two rings from the Soleste collection, one with a pink tourmaline center stone and one with pink diamonds, brought out the pink colours on her dress. The last ring was an Enchant daisy ring in white diamonds. But beautiful as Fanning looked, the strapless design of the dress left her shoulders rather bare and the outfit was simply screaming for a necklace or earrings.
6. Monica Bellucci
Dressed by: Cartier
The Italian actress turned up at the opening ceremony of the festival appropriately dressed for her prestigious role as mistress of ceremonies in a deep blue custom-made Dior gown. Resting in the dip of the dress’ sweetheart neckline was a Cartier High Jewellery necklace with white diamonds surrounding a 5.80-carat sapphire. An even larger sapphire of 13 carats was spotted on her finger on a ring, also from the brand’s High Jewellery collection. Bringing attention to her face was the sparkle from a pair of Galanterie de Cartier diamond stud earrings.
7. Jessica Chastain
Dressed by: Piaget
If her trademark fiery locks are anything to go by, red’s definitely Chastain’s colour. She turned up at the film festival’s opening ceremony in Piaget’s Sun on Fire necklace featuring a 5.01-carat pear-shaped diamond surrounded by rubies, and a matching ring from the same high jewellery collection set with another pear-shaped diamond, 1.51 carats this time, and more rubies. The red of the gemstones brought out the red in the floral embroidery on her Alexander McQueen gown.
