In 218BC, one of history’s greatest army generals led his troops across the Alps with the aid of elephants in a daring military campaign. Today, that legend is being retold by Montblanc.
The limited collection of five editions, totalling 102 pens, culminates in a single piece costing €1.5 million (S$2.4 million). High Artistry Homage to Hannibal Barca Limited Edition 1 is forged in white gold, diamonds and blue sapphires. The stones on the clip, shaped as an elephant trunk, and elephant head of the cap are individually cut and set by hand.
Commemorating Hannibal’s epic journey, the forepart of the pen is engraved with his route from Carthage to Rome. In addition, the solid gold nib bears the image of the Carthaginian god Baal Hammon and is adorned with two brilliant-cut diamonds.
High Artistry Homage to Hannibal Barca Limited Edition 5 – in reference to the five great generals in Hannibal’s family – is also created in gold, diamonds and sapphires and includes for the first time an engraved model of Mont Blanc in rock crystal to represent the alpine trek. Rare engraved mammoth ivory decorates the cone.
A limited edition of 10 is inspired by the Battle of Cannae and an edition of 86, referencing the 86,000 men who crossed the Alps with Hannibal, completes the set.
