It’s the 70th Cannes Film Festival where the best of the movie industry descends upon the French Riviera, in an annual celebration of film, fashion and glamour. We take a look at the ones who did it right.
1. Elle Fanning
Dressed by: Gucci
The young actress makes several appearances in the festival and in all of them, knocks it out of the fashion park. This fun and adventurous Gucci number is just one of her many outfits that took our breaths away. Its revealing factor is tempered with a pale, ethereal shade of green and a hem of soft floral appliques, creating the illusion of Fanning statuesquely standing upon a bed of flowers.
2. Susan Sarandon
Dressed by: Albert Feretti
The actress is no stranger to the Best Dressed lists, and this time is no exception. This seductive green velvet number by Albert Feretti displays the best of Sarando’s age-defying assets and compliments her signature red locks. A pair of Gentle Monster sunglasses acts as an interesting accessory of choice, lending a touch of fun and mystery.
3. Uma Thurman
Dressed by: Atelier Versace
The off-shoulder trend continues in Uma Thurman’s Atelier Versace creation. Architectural pleats makes for a tailored look and serves as a fitting contrast against the soft drape and colour of the dress. The actress keeps things minimal by accessorising with an elegant Bulgari choker.
4. Emily Ratajkowski
Dressed by: Twinset
The ‘Blurred Lines’ model channels Old Hollywood in this lingerie-inspired piece by Twinset, with bangs and the up-do both harking back to a nostalgic past. A statement necklace by Bulgari completes the sexy outfit, reminding the world of how she came to be an overnight sensation.
5. Bella Hadid
Dressed by: Alexandre Vauthier
Following her infamous headline-grabbing appearance last year, Bella Hadid also looks to Old Hollywood this year, and for yet another slinky look. The silk dress by Alexandre Vauthier features a dangerously low sweetheart neckline and a dangerously high split at the thigh. The model styles it with retro curls and a Bulgari blue diamond necklace.
6. Liu Wen
Dressed by: Jean Paul Gaultier
The supermodel dons a sparkly pinstripe suit by Jean Paul Gaultier as an ode to menswear fashion. The fit of the outfit is light and relaxed while the embroidered additions ensures it is occasion-appropriate. The low neckline attracts just the right amount of intrigue.
Dressed by: Dior Haute Couture
Leave it to the songstress to bring drama to the red carpet. Over-the-top Chopard diamond and emerald jewellery (including a striking handpiece) and red, pointed nails lend this otherwise traditional Dior Haute Couture ensemble her characteristic edge. The look is topped with Rihanna’s trademark tattoos and a funky pair of sunglasses by Andy Wolf Eyewear.
