Flights of fancy

Travelling in style takes on a new meaning with Rimowa Singapore’s luggages. Teaming up with local contemporary designer label, Ong Shunmugam and visual artist Rizibe, Rimowa has released an exclusive collection that pays homage to culturally-rich Asian destinations.

The capsule collection, Women on a Mission, features six luggages, and each draws inspiration one of the six Asian countries — India, China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia and Mongolia. Paying tribute to the adventurous spirit of Asian women, the collection seeks to implore women to embark on a journey of exploration and self-discovery.

Each luggage is covered in patterned fabrics sourced from the countries, and on the inner linings, Rizibe works his magic showcasing unique illustrations that reflect the country’s history.

The key design of the collection, India, uses traditional textile sourced from the country itself. The fabric uses shimmery threads with vibrant, multi-coloured floral motifs, to reflect the country’s culture and penchant for gold-centric jewellery. The interior is contrasted with a female character riding an elephant amidst a backdrop of cyan and peach.

The other five designs feature reinterpretations of pieces from Ong Shunmugam’s existing collections, and each spins a story of its own. China, for example, features red florals on the exterior, with a Chinese temple and rickshaw adorned on the interior, while Mongolia features a classic ethnic print with motorbike motifs on the interior.

Just three pieces of each design are available, with complementing womenswear by Ong Shunmugam available at its brick-and-motar shop.
