Roger Dubuis Knights of the Round Table III

Roger Dubuis’ Knights of the Round Table III is an extravagant modern retelling of the Arthurian legend

It takes something really special to stand out among the audacious Excalibur collection of Roger Dubuis. And here it is: the Knights of the Round Table III (RM1,153,600, S$390,000), a 45mm radial whirlwind of 18-carat pink gold and blue enamel. The ‘time’ part of this timepiece seems almost incidental, but this two-hander is powered by the self-winding Calibre RD 821, which bears the Hallmark of Geneva.

It is the rest of the package that commands the most awe. This third edition of the Knights of the Round Table has opted for a more abstract interpretation of the Arthurian theme.

There are still 12 knights with swords extended for hour markers, and they are still exquisitely hand-finished in solid gold. Rather than resembling classical statues however, they are rendered in a low-poly style reminiscent of early 3D computer graphics.

The dial follows suit, blocky and precisely irregular, carved out of blocks of blue enamel. The fluted bezel and crown add an edgy finishing touch, and the blue alligator strap complements perfectly.

If the first two referenced classical art, this one embraces modernity. It is limited to just 28 pieces.
