A 50&50 wine pairing experience at Zafferano

  • Have a recurring case of Monday blues? Zafferano has got us looking forward to Tuesdays instead. More exactly, Tuesday, 10 October. The Italian restaurant has teamed up with 50&50 wine for one night to deliver an Italian extravaganza four-course wine-pairing menu.

    Start the night with a round of canapes and Col Darato Rose as you watch the sun set. Thereafter, take a seat indoors and start the night with a Tuscan salad topped with calamari, red prawns and white clams. This dish is paired with a glass of Il Marzocco Chardonnay 2013, its fresh aromas of citron and lemon peel balancing the umami of the seafood.

    The next course: home-made tagliatelle with braised veal cheek ragout, paired with Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2013. While the savoury spice of the wine complements the hearty pasta dish, you should pace yourself, for the dishes only get better (and dare we say, heavier). Feast on the sous vide lamb shoulder served with butternut pumpkin puree. This is accompanied by 50&50 Toscana IGT 2014, a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot that packs an aroma of clove, toast and forest fruit.

    The night isn’t complete, not without a dessert or two at the very least. Zafferano serves a raspberry jelly and almond sponge with honey mousse and Iranian saffron cremeuz. The tartness is balanced with what else, a glass of sweet Vin Santo di Montepulciano 2001.
