Follow Lightfoot Travel and sample the best of what Peruvian culture has to offer. In this 10-day itinerary, you’ll be introduced to local Peruvian fare, a cuisine that has taken the fine dining world by storm, luxurious hotels and resorts that hold secrets of the land, and one of the greatest manmade monuments in history.

Your adventure begins in the Peruvian capital, Lima. Upon touching down at Jorge Chávez International Airport through your own travel arrangements, a representative will meet and bring you to Belmond Miraflores Park hotel.

The next two days will be spent in Lima. You’ll meet Chef Diego Alcantara, ambassador and purveyor of Peruvian cuisine, who will introduce its intricacies and influences. Like the country’s history, Peruvian cuisine is both complex and fascinating at the same time. You’ll find traces of cultural heritage from Spain, Germany, Japan, China and certain parts of West Africa weaved into some of Peru’s most famous dishes.

You’ll also tour the ancient civilisation with a private tour guide. You’ll visit places of interest such as Plaza Armas, Palacio de Gobierno and the Cathedral of Lima. Other pit stops include San Isidro for the Huaca Hullamarca pyramid, Miraflores for the Pacific Ocean, and Barranco, the Bohemian neighbourhood.

Catch your flight from Lima to Cusco, the heart of the Inca. You’ll put up at Belmond Rio Sagrado, located right in the valley below 15th century Inca citadel, Machu Picchu. Over the next few days, you’ll explore the Sacred Valley and visit the Chinchero village, Salt Pans of Maras, Urubamba River the archaeological site of Moray and Ollantaytambo town.

Of course, the trip isn’t complete without a stop at the ruins of the Holy City of Machu Picchu via the Hiram Bingham train. The UNESCO site was a sacred pilgrimage destination in the Inca times, and served as a holy site for churches, monasteries, and convents. Built in stone, the site is flanked by two faraway hills in the eastern Andes mountain range. Soak in the thermal baths, tower over at the Lost City of the Incas, and enjoy an afternoon tea session at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge.

On the last day, enjoy a leisure breakfast at the hotel before being transferred to the airport to catch your flight to Lima, then home.
