At Tomatillo Mexican Food & Bar, look forward to tacos galore, ceviche and views of the iconic Marina Bay Sands
What’s the story?
Mexican food in Singapore typically has more misses than hits, but thanks to power couple Daniel and Tamara Chavez, the scales may soon be tipped. The successful chefs behind Canchita Peruvian Cuisine and Tinto Spanish Restaurant have gotten their hands busy again, this time with Tomatillo Mexican Food & Bar, opening this 7 February 2025 at the Esplanade.
What’s on the menu?
Tacos are obviously the stars of the show, thanks to Tamara Chavez, who hails from Mexico herself. Expect classics like the Al Pastor (marinated pork in Mexican adobo) and Carne Asada (grilled beef intercostal), and pescatarian-friendly versions like the De Jaiba, riddled with crispy soft shell crab and tomato onion salsa.
Beyond tacos, the menu is packed with other Mexican favourites, such as ceviche, burritos, nachos, quesadillas and enchiladas. There’s even the couple’s Famous Roasted Pork Ribs, made with Mexican adobo and homemade barbecue dressing, and “Mexican pizza”, if you would like to relive your Taco Bell days. Except this time, with Margaritas and Palomas to complete a quality meal.
What else is there to know?
The restaurant will open at the Esplanade from 5pm to 10.30pm on weekdays (Wednesday to Friday) and 12pm to 10.30pm on weekends. There will be four dining areas—an indoor dining hall, ceviche bar, al fresco dining area, and outdoor terrace with views of the iconic Marina Bay Sands—dressed in warm parquet, lush greenery and rattan features.
