The superyacht possesses a sportive silhouette
Those less familiar with the yachting scene may find the fully custom Alia SAN difficult to categorise. Measuring at 45m, its size alone denotes it a superyacht. But what about its low and narrow silhouette that lends it a speedboat-like allure?
Designed by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design with naval architecture by Lateral Naval Architects, the vessel’s tapered exterior, sporting low bulwarks and a coupé-like profile, evokes a sense of sportive elegance not normally seen on larger vessels. While the streamlined silhouette—a feature specifically requested by the owner—imbues the vessel with a striking presence, it posed the shipyard with certain challenges in ensuring the onboard experience retains the grandeur and comfort levels of a traditional superyacht.
The main challenge on a yacht of this size and volume is that every square centimetre had to be optimised,” says Paul Costerus, Sinot’s senior yacht designer and project manager. “While developing the layout we had to push the boundaries everywhere while taking care that you could still move around the boat comfortably, so the ergonomics were important too.”
The yacht’s open-air interior spaces, boasting panoramic views of the sea, evinces the shipyard’s ability to work through the obstacles. Decked with minimalist furniture made from premium materials like teak, eucalyptus and tan leather, the expansive salon offers a sophisticated space for socialising. The space also features an ingenious Japanese-inspired recessed seating area that’s designed to counteract against the lowered ceiling—a result of the yacht’s sportive superstructure.
Measuring at 380 gross tonnage, the Alia SAN has four personalised guest suites in addition to a large master stateroom fitted with large curved windows. Impressively, the shipyard has managed to implement a fore-to-aft sightliness in spite of the yacht’s unique structure.
“The striking, open and pure design of the yacht with an uncompromising functionality has demanded innovative and complex engineering.” says Alia president, Gökhan Çelik. “But that’s what we do as full-custom yacht builders.”
