Cameron Smith of Rippers GC shares all ahead of Liv Golf 2025

Sentimentality has never been a defining trait of the world’s top athletes. The best tend to keep their focus forward, treating past victories as little more than milestones on the road ahead. Still, some moments are worth revisiting.

In 2024, Ripper GC delivered a commanding performance, securing back-to-back team victories in Adelaide and Singapore. The latter, played on the pristine Serapong course at Sentosa, was a particular highlight—a course that rewards precision and composure, both hallmarks of Cameron Smith’s game. Now, with another LIV Golf season ahead, Cameron Smith and his team return to defend their title.

It was an amazing two weeks last year when Ripper GC captured team titles in Adelaide and Singapore. What do you remember about those two weeks?

Yeah, it was a great time. Obviously, those are two courses that we really enjoy playing on. I think it (The Serapong Golf Course at Sentosa) is probably the best conditioned golf course in Singapore that we’ve played on over the past three or four years. So yeah, looking forward to getting back there and hopefully we can defend our team title.

We saw an incredible atmosphere last year. Do the big crowds and lively atmosphere affect your game in any way?

I love it. It’s really cool to play in front of really big crowds. Singapore was nice last year, especially coming down the 9th and then around the 18th. It’s always a pretty cool area.

It’s been over two years since you joined Liv Golf. What is the biggest impact it’s had on your life?

For me, getting to travel a lot more makes me happy. I guess it’s something that was taken away from me during  my years on the tour. I enjoy seeing different cultures. Yeah, so I think that’s been the biggest thing for me—that’s made me a happier person.

How do you see the league growing in the coming years?

I think we’re doing a lot of really good stuff. We’re going to different places—places where professional golf or elite professional golf haven’t been around for a while. I really enjoy bringing golf to places that haven’t seen us play in a very long time.  We just kind of need to keep doing it and fine tuning it.

Who do you see as the biggest threats in Singapore?

It’s hard to go past Legion. All the guys on their team have been playing some really good golf. They’ve got off to a hot start and they’re a very stacked team, so it’s going to be hard to beat them all year. But, you know, I wouldn’t throw us out the window either, to be honest, particularly in Singapore. It’s a place that we all enjoy playing.
