A celebration of passion, heritage and excellence, Cenzo brings the culinary traditions of Italy together with modern Australia
What’s the story?
Tucked away in a shophouse in the heart of Club Street, Cenzo is chef Drew Nocente’s tribute to his father, Vincenzo (meaning ‘conqueror’ in Italian), who taught him everything about charcuterie and the importance of respecting produce. A celebration of passion, heritage and excellence, Cenzo brings the culinary traditions of Italy together with modern Australia, creating a deliciousness that’s hard to beat.
What should one order?
We highly recommend the pasta for the fresh, handmade noodles. Get the Pappardelle White Ragu, a creamy white bolognese dish made with guanciale and veal; Conchiglie Crab, if you love a crab-rich bisque; or the Prawn Risotto, if the day calls for something comforting.
Other dishes that stand out include the Seared Scallops and Crispy Ham; Prawns, Fennel and Prawn Oil; Iberico Pork Rib Eye, a juicy slab of meat served with spiced pumpkin and endives; and the Rib Eye, which comes with burnt onion sauce and beef fat potatoes.
Order a glass of wine from Cenzo’s extensive drinks menu and end the meal with some of Drew’s Tiramisu, which is real tiramisu, by the way, compared to its first iteration in 2022. The Gold’n Gaytime, a play on the popular Australian popsicle, isn’t bad either, though we would love it if the old version from Salted & Hung (Nocente’s now-defunct restaurant) is brought back.
What else is there to know?
There is a two-course set lunch going for S$38 and a communal Chef’s Table Experience (S$88 a head) for the sake of pleasing an entire group. There’s also a private dining room, which can accommodate as many as 22. Here, guests may enjoy a more personalised menu and experience, such as a hands-on pasta-making workshop and dishes unique to the occasion.
