Chanel supports the film “Spirit World” by Singaporean director Eric Khoo

By Amos Chin 16 October, 2024

Spirit World premiered on 11 October, at the Busan International Film Festival in Korea, where Chanel also serves as a partner

Chanel and cinema are intrinsically intertwined; from the beginning, late founder Gabrielle Chanel forged unfailing links with this art form, birthed around the same time as her. Early in her career, she gained recognition as a stylist and costume designer for several films, including The Rules of the Game

Shot in Japan and produced by Matilde Incerti, the feature film tells the fictional story of musician Claire Emery, portrayed by Catherine Deneuve, who flies to Tokyo for a farewell concert before her earthly life ends abruptly. In keeping with her enduring passion for the seventh art, the maison showed support to Spirit World, the latest film by Singaporean director Eric Khoo exploring the mythology of ghosts. Here, the house played an integral role in bringing a poetic and fantastical work to life, providing financial backing for the production, collaborating with César-winning costume designer Pascaline Chavanne, and lending exquisite jewellery creations to Catherine Deneuve, who is also a long-term partner of the house. Additionally, Chanel outfitted actress Maiya Goshima with signature pieces, ensuring the film’s aesthetic matched its visionary narrative.

By supporting this project, Chanel champions the artistic vision of one of today’s most prominent directors while amplifying the distinctive voice of a celebrated Singaporean talent.
