The five-star resort takes glamping to a whole new level with private retreats in a secluded rainforest
So you’ve been to numerous resorts and villas near Singapore, and are looking for a place that offers adventure. One that lets you experience what the great outdoors have to offer. The gods in Bali have answered your prayers in the form of Capella Ubud, Bali.
Spread across four hectares of lush rainforest by Wos river, guests at the luxury resort are encouraged to get lost in the wilderness. Plus, with just 22 one-bedroom retreats and a unique two-bedroom lodge spread across the property, you’ll barely see your neighbours. In fact, you’ll be forgiven for thinking that you’re the only occupants at the resort.
Each retreat comes with a private saltwater plunge pool — ranging from nine to 27sqm — and a large outdoor deck with vantage views of the surroundings. Trust us on this, depending on the villa you’ve chosen, you’ll probably spend a bulk of your first day just soaking up views of the rainforest, rice terraces, Wos river or Keliki valley.
In each villa, you’ll find a canvas ceiling, patterned walls, large windows, rattan flooring and furniture from a bygone era. While it’s not your typical Bill Bensley-designed property, we’re loving the change all the same.
Gone Glamping
As far as the word ‘glamping’ goes, Capella Ubud, Bali takes the cake. It’s every bit rustic and fun as you’d imagine a campsite to be. Take some time an explore camp grounds, which includes The Cistern, a 30-m saltwater rainforest pool, The Motar and Pestle pool bar and other dining establishments. In the evenings after dinner, sit by the campfire and listen a local storyteller weaves tales of the jungle and its legends. The experience comes complete with pulled hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows.
The Jungle Awaits
Of course, it’d be a pity to not venture out and explore. Camp Rangers are on hand to guide you through adventure wellness activities including mud pilates, mountain biking, walks through paddy fields and jungle boot camps. If you’d like to take a leisurely stroll, we recommend paying the resort’s honey farms and cocoa, tea and coffee plantations a visit.
Capella Ubud, Bali opens on 29 June, and rates start from US$838 per night. So adult campers, pack your bags, and we’ll see you in a jiffy.
