Off the beaten track
It’s fairly likely that unless you’ve made a reservation at Tamarind Hill or taken a wrong turn, you probably wouldn’t turn onto the winding road that leads you to it. Tucked into a corner of one of Singapore’s quieter spots that is Labrador Nature Reserve, the restaurant specialises in serving traditional and contemporary Thai cuisine.
That’s set to change though, with the latest addition of Villa Samadhi, a 20-chamber boutique hotel located at the foot of Tamarind Hill that boasts of our state’s colonial past with rich British architecture and aesthetics. Restored by the same owners of the restaurant, Villa Samadhi in Kuala Lumpur and Japamala Resort on Tioman island, the Singapore venture introduces a haven for those looking to uncover hideaways from the city.
Four crib options are available, the crème de la crème being the Luxe Sarang chamber, located in an adjacent building for additional privacy. Apart from enjoying a separate living area, you can also enjoy the added facility of a private outdoor plunge pool.
The hotel’s library and bar is perfect for pre-dinner drinks before you adjourn to Tamarind Hill restaurant for meals, a short two-minute stroll on the boardwalk that cuts through the hills. While you’re at it, be sure to keep a look out for wildlife such as squirrels and peacocks, for the latter that usually roam around Sentosa island have been spotted in the area.
