In our weekly series, we bring you the latest in luxury news around the world. This week’s highlights: Breitling turns 140, The Bentley Environmental Foundation welcomes two new charities, and Tumi debuts Asra collection

Mercedes-AMG and IWC Schaffhausen celebrate two very special icons

After two decades of partnership together, it is time to celebrate with two special editions: the Mercedes-AMG G 63 “Grand Edition” and IWC Schaffhausen Big Pilot’s Watch AMG G 63, both sharing a love of style, utilitarianism and functionality. Out of 1,000 units, only eight Grand Editions will be available for purchase in Singapore, and if you’re one of the lucky eight, be sure to complete the look with the watch.

Like the off-roader, the Big Pilot’s Watch AMG G 63 (S$ 48,600) is designed with a striking black and gold colour contrast. Boasting a case and crown made from 18-carat Armor Gold, it sports a sand-blasted surface and white rings that pay homage to the iconic headlights of the G-Class.

Breitling’s 140 Years of Firsts

As Breitling turns 140 this year, it is honouring the occasion with stories of its many firsts, whether it’s a breakthrough in sustainability or timekeeping in the air or at sea. This month, it celebrates two of its icons—the Navitimer, the first pilot wristwatch to combine a chronograph and computational slide rule, and the Cosmonaute, the first Swiss wristwatch to see space—with reinvented editions. The new Navitimer GMT and Automatic 41, for instance, marries classic with contemporary, omitting the chronograph while preserving a balanced dial composition. The self-winding Cosmonaute, on the other hand, features a 24-hour dial, 18k red-gold case and a caseback engraving that reveals the watch incredible story of stepping into space.

The Bentley Environmental Foundation welcomes two new charities

Saving the planet is an entire job on its own, and the Bentley Environmental Foundation, which launched in June 2023 as part of Bentley Motor’s Beyond100 strategy, plans to support the motion in the best ways possible. It partners organisations working on innovative solutions and impactful environmental projects, with everwave and the Blue Marine Foundation as new charities, dedicated to clean-up missions and nursing the oceans back to health respectively.

Dior goes to the ballet

How about a pair of ballet flats for a must-have? As part of the Dior spring/summer 2024 ready-to-wear collection by Maria Grazia Chiuri, ballerinas have reinterpreted in variations as an ode to this beauty of dance. Distinguished by their feminine curves and ever so comfortable, these shoes are trimmed in satin and adorned with bows and resin pearls. They also reflect the “constantly renewed inventiveness” of the Ateliers, and promise a graceful allure until the end.
