A momentous milestone for the fourth-generation Continental GT: production lines officially opened on its founder’s birthday
The very first example of the fourth-generation Bentley Continental GT has rolled off the production line, just in time to celebrate the 136th birthday of its founder, Walter Owen Bentley. Having gone through a over 90 stations in the production process, the meticulously crafted vehicle marks a new chapter in Bentley’s Continental GT legacy, perfectly balancing performance with luxury in true Bentley fashion.
Finished in a striking Tourmaline Green, the first production model is a perfect modern-day interpretation of the iconic Bentley Green. Its interior, sheathed in shades of Gravity Grey and Mandarin, features refreshed design elements in the form of three-dimensional leather textures and dark chrome finishes. This production model is slated to first serve as a press fleet car in the UK before joining Bentley’s Heritage Collection. Starting off with the 1919 3-Litre EXP2, this new Continental GT will join a curated selection of 45 cars, a collective representation of 105 years of automotive excellence.
This latest iteration builds upon Bentley’s storied design philosophy, albeit significantly redesigned with a clean exterior and interior lines that reflect modernity and a future-facing vision. “The fourth-generation Continental GT is a true masterpiece. In completing a staggering 92 assembly stations throughout the production process, we’ve continually pushed the boundaries of the interior design; our artisans in Crewe have truly outdone themselves in ensuring every detail exudes luxury,” expresses Andreas Lehe, Bentley’s board member for manufacturing.
Under the hood, the new Continental GT features Bentley’s innovative Ultra Performance Hybrid–a combination of a 4.0-litre V8 engine and a 190 PS electric motor. This combination propels the car to 100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds, with 771 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque readily delivered. Spectacular performance aside, the hybrid system is also capable of 81 kilometres of electric-only range, topping out at a total range of 859 kilometres between refuelling.
With production of the first batch officially underway, discerning clients looking to configure a Continental GT that’s uniquely theirs can do so from an astonishing 46 billion possible combinations. Blending bespoke options, state-of-the-art technology, and storied design that looks to the future, Bentley reaffirms its role as a leader in the luxury automotive sector.
