Make the weekend count with spirit-lifting cocktails at the Horse’s Mouth and Sugarhall
Horse’s Mouth
The lowdown: Millenia Walk hardly comes to mind when the mood calls for cocktails, but times have changed. Tucked away on Nihon Street, the mall’s Little Japan, is Horse’s Mouth, a long-time tenant at Forum the Shopping Mall. Founded in 2012 by Russell Yu of Iki Concepts (the same guy who helped bring in Hayop), Horse’s Mouth is now a casual 31-seater gastrobar offering Asian-inspired cocktails and reimagined Latin fare.
What to order: The bar manager, Kelvin Yap, is ever ready to tailor the drinks to whatever you like, but if you’d rather order off the menu, there are 10 cocktails to pick from (or nine, really, if you take away the green tea-heavy Shizuoka Breeze.) Order the Fuego Serenade, a spicy margarita made with jalapeño and a generous squeeze of calamansi, or the Laguna Lumina, if you like the idea of a clarified piña colada. Sit back and soak in the buzz as you work through plates of Almejas Aglio Olio (a must-order) and Yellowtail Ceviche, which are both part of the lunch set, too.

Sugarhall
The lowdown: Located above Rosemead in a heritage building in the CBD, Sugarhall is a rum-loving bar and restaurant by the Jigger & Pony Group. Expect a fun atmosphere complete with the headiest punch bowls, comforting grub and finance folk enjoying a post-work drink.
What to order: If a getaway is what you need, then Sugarhall’s ‘cocktail getaway’ is what you must have. In its latest menu, guests are invited on a series of adventures through postcard-perfect cocktails. Treat yourself to a sun-soaked summer with Peach Smash, a celebration of juicy peaches, bourbon, rhubarb and lemon. Or travel to the capital of Puerto Rico with the San Juan, a fan favourite of the old Sugarhall that fizzes with green grapes, passion fruit, lime and soda. But before you go too far, line the stomach with some Oyster Mushroom Tempura and a plate of Indomie Mi Goreng, served with ayam penyet, sambal matah and a sunny side up.
