Mercedes-Maybach has unveiled its first all-electric SUV, the EQS 680, an exquisite blend of cutting-edge technology and artisanal craftsmanship. Premiered at the exclusive Eureka Griffin Club atop Cluny Hill, the launch underscored Maybach’s commitment to sophistication and performance in sustainable luxury.

The EQS 680 SUV’s exterior design celebrates Maybach’s timeless aesthetic, with a commanding black panel grille adorned by the Mercedes star and chrome accents. Maybach’s emblematic detailing continues with a sweeping light strip, projecting a unique welcome animation. The optional two-tone paintwork, meticulously applied by hand, is offered in five refined combinations, including high-tech silver and nautical blue. In the Night Series package, which is our favourite, dark chrome accents and 21-inch alloy wheels elevate the EQS 680 with an air of exclusive elegance.

Slide inside, and you’ll find that the EQS 680 exemplifies Maybach’s ‘Sophisticated Luxury’ ethos with plush materials and advanced functionality. The cabin’s sumptuous design combines MANUFAKTUR walnut wood and sustainably sourced nappa leather, with optional colour schemes in crystal white and silver grey. Maybach’s commitment to sustainability extends to the materials, including upcycled leather tanned using plant-based agents derived from coffee shells, underscoring the SUV’s environmental consciousness without compromising on quality.

The two rear passengers can enjoy an indulgent experience with executive-style seats offering ventilation, massage functions, and an advanced air filtration and quality control system, complete with HEPA filtration. For discerning travellers, the rear lounge area delivers the ultimate cocooning effect, complete with adaptive lighting and bespoke ambient modes, all meticulously crafted to enrich every sense and mood.

Powering the EQS 680 are twin electric motors delivering 484 kW and 955 Nm of torque, with a range of up to 635 kilometres on a single charge. Its suspension, paired with rear-axle steering, ensures a smooth, responsive drive typical of the Maybach namesake, with the specialised MAYBACH drive mode providing unmatched comfort for rear-seat passengers. Advanced MBUX features bring intuitive control, while the Burmester 4D surround sound system delivers an immersive audio experience enhanced by Dolby Atmos. As an acoustic highlight, the Aerial Grace audio experience responds to driving dynamics, creating a serene soundscape tailored to the all-electric Maybach experience.
