In our weekly series, we bring you the latest in luxury news around the world. This week’s highlights: Dior teams up with Kaws, Fendi opens in Madrid, and the Maserati Biturbo-Shamal Restomod
Chrome Hearts x Mikimoto
Chrome Hearts, known for its edgy baroque aesthetic, has taken a softer approach with a collaboration with Japanese jeweller Mikimoto. The partnership debut, which was years in the making, features 11 new, high-end pieces, including a US$6,000 pearl brooch and US$33,000 Akoya pearl necklace. Each piece is two-of-a-kind, and available for purchase exclusively at Chrome Hearts stores in New York, Aoyama and London, as well as Mikimoto flagship stores in Tokyo, New York and Hong Kong.
The Piaget Andy Warhol Clou de Paris
What was once Piaget’s cult ’70s Black Tie dress watch has been renamed to the Andy Warhol watch, thanks to a licensed collaboration with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. Replacing the hallmark gadroons of the 1972 Black Tie with a more refined Clou de Paris guilloché motif, the Andy Warhol marks a new chapter with an intrepid exercise in style. Entirely crafted by hand, the guilloché recreates three-dimensional pyramids that reflect light and cast shadows to great effect, and true to Piaget’s tradition of using exotic dial materials, you’d find a sliver of blue meteorite embedded in, if you squint hard enough.
Dior teams up with Kaws
Continuing a fascinating dialogue initiated at the Dior summer 2019 show, an exclusive capsule collection has been dreamed up by creative director Kim Jones and Kaws, a leading figure in contemporary art. The menswear collection brings on a fun, pop energy with kaleidoscopic snake illustrations, spanning varsity jackets, quilted coats, button-up shirts and track pants. Expect the creations to land in Dior boutiques this 2 January 2025.
Rimowa’s Original Cabin Optical
Grooves, an iconic feature of Rimowa since 1950, have taken a bold new direction with the introduction of a new limited-edition release—the Rimowa Original Cabin Optical. Inspired by optical art, the piece features a geometric pattern across brushed and unbrushed finishes, tricking the eye into seeing its signature grooves disappearing, depending on how you see it and where the light hits. This optical art motif continues inside, on Rimowa’s Flex Dividers, with jacquard patterns mirroring the shifting effect. Yours for S$2,870.
Fendi opens a new boutique in Madrid
Located in the beating heart of the Salamanca luxury district, Fendi’s Madrid boutique is a 240-sqm space that encompasses the entire Fendi universe, joining neighbours such as Dior, Cartier, Hermès and the like. Keeping in line with the Maison’s connection with the art and design worlds, the store combines Fendi’s heritage with Spanish elements and the works of emerging and established artists from across the world. Inside the luxurious double-height boutique, a highly curated mix of materials and textures articulate the space, with areas dedicated to men’s and women’s collections and an intimate contemporary living room to complete the Fendi experience.
The Maserati Biturbo-Shamal Restomod
Modena Automobil is bringing one of Maserati’s finest creations back from the dead. The shop has just pulled back the curtain on the new restomod based on the Italian automaker’s beloved grand tourer called Project MA-01.
Modena has, quite sensibly, not messed with the Shamal’s gloriously angular shape too much on the MA-01. The car’s stance and crisp lines are relatively unchanged, but a new body kit gives it a touch more bite. The front fascia is more aggressive, the inlets much bigger, and the wheel arches more prominent and sharp. It will also be powered by a twin-turbocharged three-litre V-6 from a present-day Ghibli that will make 500 hp. Needless to say, it’s much more powerful than the car it’s based on, which, in its last year on sale, had a twin-turbocharged eight-cylinder that made just 326 hp.
Only 33 units will be produced, each available for a starting price of €585,000, excluding taxes. An estimated delivery time of eight to 10 months is expected, depending on requested options.
