At Somma’s pasta bar, look forward to reimagined classic cocktails and a sharp, accomplished food menu by Mirko Febbrile
The low-down
New Bahru continues to be a centre of gravity for new and hip happenings. From a creative cluster by The Lo & Behold Group comes Somma, a modern Italian dining destination that spans two floors. Brought to you by Mirko Febbrile, the same chef behind the ever-popular Fico at East Coast Park, Somma is a reflection of his Puglian roots. Febbrile’s creative Italian cuisine can be enjoyed two ways—head upstairs for a six-course menu at the fine-dining restaurant, or get comfortable at the chic and intimate pasta bar, where small plates and cocktails go hand in hand perfectly.
The drinks
At the pasta bar, look forward to aperitivi, savouries and classics, reimagined by bar manager Mel Chavez with bold, creative twists. We highly recommend the Bolognese Muse, a clarified cocktail obviously inspired by the hearty Italian dish. Made with whiskey, tomato shrub, mirepoix syrup and beef jus, it is delicious clean with a slight herbaceous flavour to it. Another must-have includes Mirko’s Martini, an Italian gin-based dirty martini served at -7°C for the optimal martini experience.
The food
The food menu is sharp and accomplished, with almost every item a hit. Don’t miss the Angus Steak Tartare or Yellowtail Amberjack Crudo, and while you’re at a pasta bar, you can’t not have pasta. The Maltagliati and Wild Boar Ragu makes for excellent “scrappy” pasta, and the Radiatori with River Crab and Capocollo may just be the best crab pasta we have ever had in Singapore. Vegetarians will also find goodness in the Bucatini, a simple dish that finds winning flavour in yellow tomato arrabbiata.
