Porsche debuts a commissioned artwork by Red Hong Yi at ART SG 2025, a reflective art piece celebrating time, identity, legacy, and nods to Singapore’s 60th birthday

How does our past shape the trajectory of our present future? And how do our choices propel us forward into the unknown? In a world where art and innovation intertwine, Porsche opens 2025 with this powerful statement at ART SG, Southeast Asia’s largest contemporary art fair.

Coinciding with the Singapore Art Week 2025, ART SG will showcase leading international and regional galleries, alongside large-scale installations, experimental films, panel discussions and more. As one of Singapore’s cultural calendar highlights, the fair continues to celebrate and elevate the city as a global art destination.

As the official automotive partner, Porsche has collaborated with globally acclaimed artist Red Hong Yi to create a seemingly nondescript, yet unexpectedly thought-provoking installation titled “The Red Thread: Past, Present, Future,” on display from 17 to 19 January at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre.

Stretching nine metres from point to point, the central panels infuse 60 shades of red from Porsche’s Paint-to-Sample catalogue, and also nods towards Singapore’s 60th year of independence this year. Iconic hues like Peru Red from the 1970s and the modern Carmine Red are featured in the mix, representative of the enduring spirit of craftsmanship and innovation that Porsche stands for.

Fixed on either side of the artwork at a 90-degree angle, large mirrors further amplify the installation’s depth and creates an infinite reflection, beckoning viewers to ponder the connection between past and future. Step back to look at the bigger picture (literally), and you’ll see Red Hong Yi’s subtle incorporation of the Porsche 911’s fly-line, an implied nod towards the timeless design and enduring aspirations of the marque.

“Porsche’s rich legacy and attention to detail are a perfect match for this project. Together, we’ve created an artwork that speaks to the essence of time–how our past shapes our present, and inspires our future,” says Red Hong Yi. Photo by Porsche

“Together, what we’ve created speaks to the essence of time–how our past shapes our present, and inspires our future,” remarks Red, on the collaboration with Porsche. Known for her use of everyday materials to tell compelling stories rooted in her Malaysian-Chinese heritage, globally-recognised Red Hong Yi’s works have graced museums from Hong Kong to San Francisco, and even the cover of TIME magazine.

“In our conversations with Red, we quickly uncovered a shared interest and belief in the notion of time, and the interplay between past, present and future,” shares Yannick Ott, the marketing director at Porsche Asia Pacific. “Though seemingly at odds, each is indispensable to the other. Consistency can only thrive when contrasted against change and evolution, and genuine progress always honours tradition. Our icon, the 911, now in its eighth generation, stands as a testament to this philosophy.”

Beyond ART SG, Porsche will also be offering a number of immersive experiences at the Porsche Studio Singapore. Over the weekend of 18 and 19 January, automotive artist Chris Dunlop is set to unveil a bespoke one-of-a-kind 911 Dakar art car, a masterpiece that’s debuting in Singapore. Both artists will also be present at the “Driving Tomorrow” panel discussion at the Studio, further enriching this art-themed journey.
