Chen’s Kitchen is the place to go for comfort Chinese food, elevated with finesse, rich Szechwan flavours and Japanese techniques
This week, Paragon welcomes Chen’s Kitchen, a new casual concept by Chen Kentaro, the chef known for whipping up Szechwan specialities at the one-Michelin-starred Shisen Hanten. Like the more easy-going sibling Chen’s Kitchen is, one can expect a family-friendly environment filled with cosy booths and communal dining tables, serving comfort Chinese food, elevated with finesse, rich Szechwan flavours and Japanese techniques.
Inspired by tze char dining in Singapore, the menu offers home-style dishes that are perfect for sharing. Think XXL Szechwan La Zi Ji, an upgraded version of the popcorn chicken; Kurozu Kurobuta, a more refined sweet and sour pork; and Poached Fish Fillet in Golden Broth, where delicate slices of fish are served in a soothing broth of Japanese pumpkin, Szechwan peppercorns and various other spices.
And if you like mapo tofu as much as the chef does, his signature recipe of silky tofu, combined with ground meat, fermented bean paste, chilli oil and Sichuan peppercorn, is a mainstay. Those feeling a bit more adventurous can opt for a different variation, available with diced A5 Kagoshima Japanese wagyu chuck rib, prawns and scallops, and plant-based minced meat.
