Calm, clever, and quick to charm, Xpeng’s coupe-SUV majors on serenity, smart technology, and ultra-fast top-ups
If you judge a car by decibels and spectacle, the Xpeng G6 will not be your headline act. This is the quiet one with the calm confidence, the kind of car that makes a busy week feel a little softer.
Over four days, with far more than the usual home-to-office shuffle, I never once reached for a charger. Credit goes to a sizeable battery, tidy efficiency, and an easygoing character that favours smooth progress over showmanship.

In terms of design, the G6 feels like a blend: a playful, almost Hyundai Kona-like face tapering into a coupe-SUV tail with a hint of Porsche Cayenne flair. Inside, my test car’s white leatherette was crisp and contemporary—appealing to minimalists, less so for coffee drinkers. The seats are generously cushioned, with ventilation up front, while everyday details are thoughtfully resolved: two 50W wireless charging pads, multiple USB ports, and a powered tailgate. The cabin is light-filled and airy thanks to a panoramic glass roof, while the long wheelbase adds both space and a sense of ease.

The technology is where the G6 leans forward. A 10.2-inch driver display covers the essentials, complemented by a sharp 14.96-inch central screen powered by Xmart OS on a Snapdragon 8155 chip. It is quick, intuitive, and updates over the air. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard, as does a 960W Xopera sound system with 18 speakers, including headrest speakers for the driver that routes prompts and calls discreetly. Remote parking assist is also available, though I had neither the opportunity nor the inclination to let the car park itself.
On paper, the Long Range trim features an 87.5kWh net battery paired with a 210kW motor (about 282hp) and 440Nm of torque, good for 0–100km/h in 6.2 seconds and a Worldwide Harmonised Light-duty Test Procedure range of up to 570km. The Standard Range version offers a 66kWh battery, 190kW, and up to 435km of range. Charging, however, is the highlight: the Long Range supports up to 280kW DC, which means a 10 to 80 per cent top-up in under 20 minutes.

On the move, the G6 feels lively enough for gaps in traffic and motorway ramps, but the chassis is clearly tuned for comfort over cornering bravado. It is quiet, composed, and seldom unsettled—more spa day than track day. That, ultimately, is its charm: connected, not combative.
Our verdict? The Xpeng G6 is a modern lounge on wheels, smart, serene, and remarkably easy to live with. Exactly the sort of electric vehicle that helps the week glide by.
