Looking over the Kafue National Park, the property is poised to be Anantara’s first-ever safari tented camp

Anantara, a champion of immersive hospitality, is set to launch its first safari tented camp this coming April. Looking over the banks of Zambia’s Kafue River, a major waterway needed for irrigation and generating hydroelectric power, the Anantara Kafue River Tented Camp will be one’s gateway to the Kafue National Park, the country’s largest and oldest reserve.

Designed by South African studio MRS, the camp blends contemporary elegance with cultural authenticity, tapping on locally sourced materials, organic textures and mid-century accents inspired by the river and landscape. Sliding walls, outdoor showers and open-air layouts enable guests to embrace their surroundings, be it the sweeping views of the river or the symphony of the savannah.

It’s a tight-knit community of 10 villas and three terrace suites. Families can opt for the Presidential Villa, which can be expanded to a 515-sqm two-bedder complete with a private boat dock and an oversized plunge pool, while couples will love either the 115-sqm Pool Villa or 65-sqm Horizon Terrace Suite, an intimate treetop retreat elevated 14 metres above the ground.

Within the confines of Anantara luxury, guests can enjoy world-class stargazing and time-honoured African rituals that align the body and mind. The in-house restaurant and lounge honour the natural abundance of Zambia with modern interpretations of African classics; those who enjoy dining in the comfort of privacy can arrange for lunch in a boat or a bush dinner under a star-filled sky.

Beyond these confines, one has to sign up for a safari experience, tailored to the season and the traveller’s interest. Set off at the break of dawn in a 4×4 and watch the rhinos and zebras roam freely, or take in the wildlife from a private riverboat, where you’ll see crocodiles bask on a sunbaked sandbank and hippos surface for air. The national park, home to over 150 species of mammals and 500 kinds of birds, has plenty of offer, and is perhaps best enjoyed the Anantara way.
