Byredo intensifies one of its iconic fragrances, introducing Black Saffron Absolu de Parfum
More than a decade ago, Byredo introduced what would become one of its signature scents: the Black Saffron Eau de Parfum. Conceived by founder Ben Gorham, the fragrance was an epicene olfactory portrait, marrying top notes of Chinese grapefruit, juniper berries, and saffron with a heart of black violet and leather—a harmonious blend that captivated aficionados worldwide.
Now, Jérôme Epinette, the main perfumer of the maison, revisits this beloved classic with Black Saffron Absolu, an intensified iteration that retains the original’s DNA while introducing heightened depth, richness, and concentration.

Drawing inspiration from the sacred and transformative symbolism of saffron, the new composition honours the spice’s enduring legacy while venturing into a more opulent, immersive territory.
Enveloping the senses in a haze of mystical warmth, Black Saffron Absolu amplifies the spicy and leathery facets of its predecessor within a denser, more textured structure. The fragrance opens with a vibrant burst of pink pepper, juniper berries, and blackcurrant, which gradually softens into a lush floral heart of saffron, rose, and violet. At its base, bold accords of black leather, incense, patchouli, and agarwood anchor the composition, providing depth, longevity, and a decidedly more addictive character than the original.

Available in a 50ml and 100ml format, Black Saffron Absolu embodies Byredo’s philosophy of reinvention, where cultural heritage and modern identity coexist, and familiar signatures are elevated through nuance and intensity.
