Singapore auction house Hotlotz is offering a rare opportunity to bid on a late-career masterpiece by Colombian artist Fernando Botero, alongside significant works by Nanyang masters Cheong Soo Pieng and Lim Tze Peng in an exclusive single-owner sale
Works by the globally iconic Colombian artist Fernando Botero are a rare sight at Southeast Asian auctions. But this month, local and regional collectors have a unique chance to acquire one of his late-career pieces. Headlining an exclusive 26-lot single-owner sale at Singapore’s Hotlotz auction house is Dancers II (2010), a pencil and watercolour canvas bearing the artist’s signature from his final decade of production. As one of the titans of 20th-century figurative art, Botero’s distinctive aesthetic is expected to draw significant interest, with the piece estimated to fetch between S$100,000 and 150,000.
Joining the Botero on the virtual auction block are several seminal pieces by Singapore’s celebrated Nanyang masters. A major highlight is Cheong Soo Pieng’s Red Tone (1964). Estimated at S$45,000 to 60,000, the mid-career oil painting captures a serene twilight scene over a rural settlement using Cheong’s signature amber and ochre palette.
Also featured is a monumental calligraphic work by Lim Tze Peng. Titled LP – Autumn Morning by Xu Hun, the expansive piece translates classical Tang dynasty poetry into Lim’s celebrated signature ink style. Estimated at S$20,000 to 40,000, it is the largest of seven works by the artist available in this curated collection.
The online auction closes this Sunday, 21 June from 6pm onwards. While bidding takes place entirely through the Hotlotz online platform, prospective buyers can view all 26 lots in person ahead of the sale. The physical exhibition is held at HeluTrans (Gallery 1, 39 Keppel Road) rather than the usual Hotlotz saleroom. It is open to the public without an appointment today, Friday 19 June, from 2pm to 8pm, and over the weekend on 20 and 21 June from 10am to 4pm.
