Bentley has dropped the Flying Spur, and it’s a true four-door supercar

The wait is over. Bentley has unveiled the fourth generation of the Flying Spur, and here’s what’s new: it has four doors, comes with four fewer cylinders under the hood, but is the most powerful Bentley to exist right now.

Just like the Continental GT that was released recently, the British marque’s flagship sporting sedan is reborn with the same Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain–a pairing of a 4.0-litre twin turbo V-8 engine and an electric motor. Despite losing four cylinders, this updated generation of Flying Spur steadily outperforms its W12 predecessors in every way that matters today: power, acceleration, torque, emissions, design, and technology.

First off, the numbers: this version produces 771 bhp, 1000 Nm, and sprints to 100 km/h almost half a second faster than its predecessor at 3.5 seconds. And with the inclusion of an electric motor comes a new range of capabilities; on one hand, it promises up to 76 kilometres of a steady, pure-silent drive when in EV mode, but on the other, you just know spur-of-the-moment performance driving is possible anytime with the V-8 and electric combination. And this time, more than just sensational performance, the Flying Spur promises pretty sweet emissions and efficiency updates too–carbon emissions are cut down to 33 g/km, and it’s capable of travelling 829 km between refuelling.

In terms of aesthetic enhancements, the exterior retains most of its familiar muscular-yet-elegant outlook. with a extra-prominent front grille adding to its aggressive stance. On the interior, we’re getting a new quilt pattern on every seat and a new look and feel on the doors and B-pillars. As always, the bespoke coachbuilders at Mulliner offer the possibility of a completely unique Flying Spur that aligns with each owner’s taste and profile, just the way they like it.
