Combining effortless power with precision, the Torcal delivers performance in a way that will be similar to Bentley owners of any era
For over a century, Bentley’s identity has been centred around the throb of an engine. But this week in London, the company unveiled the Torcal, its first fully electric model and stylish solution to rising gas prices.
A sporting SUV/crossover that shares its 113kWh drive battery and 800V electrical architecture with the Porsche Cayenne, the Torcal delivers performance in a way that will be similar to Bentley owners of any era. Combining effortless power with precision, it can accelerate from 0 to 100km/hr in as little as 2.9 seconds, delivering the highest torque (1,350Nm) of any Bentley ever made—just enough excitement for the sophisticated consumer—and a range of up to 600 kilometres.
To compensate for the absence of a combustion engine’s oomph, Bentley also recorded live musicians—drummers, a violist and bassist—to create what it calls the “Bentley Dynamic Symphony,” complete with subtle variations and tiny imperfections. From resting pulse to full-throttle acceleration, the Torcal’s human-generated soundtrack provides aural feedback, underscoring a sense of connection rather than simply emulating an engine note.
“The Torcal represents something new, and I think unique,” said Martin Page, the product line director. “It has been engineered with great care to ensure it remains a Bentley to its core, enhanced rather than dominated by technology—from luxury, to refinement and effortless performance—the Torcal has taken the elements that define a Bentley to extraordinary new levels.”
The Torcal launches with two distinct models—one standard model and one more powerful S variant—with pricing to be announced closer to its on-sale date.
