Nestled at the foot of Mount Gower and Lidgbird, Capella Lodge is a sanctuary for anyone who appreciates barefoot luxury
Just under two hours from Sydney, Lord Howe Island is a whole other world that has for over 150 years, captivated visitors with its enduring natural treasures and grounded way of life. The UNESCO World Heritage-listed destination is located right off Australia’s eastern seaboard, and blessed with beautiful coral reef, breathtaking mountain views and pristine stretches of white-sand beach.
It welcomes only 400 visitors at any one time, with discerning travellers vying for 20 spots at Capella Lodge, a barefoot luxury resort that just reopened after three months of refurbishment. Tucked away on the more remote southern end of the island, with Mount Gower and Lidgbird towering over, the resort is a sanctuary that offers peace, privacy and spectacular views of the Tasman Sea and rolling green pastures.

From the 45-sqm Capella Suite to the 160-sqm Makambo Loft, the resort has nine island-style suites designed to reflect its glorious natural surroundings with an underplayed raw teak and linen aesthetic and its trove of Australian-designed furnishings, textiles and artworks. Each suite has been updated with fresh outdoor furniture to echo the look of Gowers Terrace, the main terrace that’s been fully refreshed to take full advantage of the island’s perpetual spring climate.

Expect plenty of lounging and al fresco dining here when you’re a guest; just don’t forget to get out and explore. Take a mountain or electric bike on an island expedition, and be sure to return in time for a rejuvenating spa treatment and drink from the evening open bar. Your stay includes plenty, such as the standard gourmet breakfast, dinner, airport transfers and enough booze to keep spirits high.
