Cartier brings the Nature Sauvage to Singapore

By Audrey Simon 29 April, 2025

The Nature Sauvage high jewellery collection celebrates Cartier’s 30 years in Singapore, drawing inspiration from the island nation’s rich flora and fauna. This stunning collection reinterprets the animals and landscapes of Singapore through a dazzling array of jewels

Showcased at the Former Command House, a historic site that served as a British outpost during WWII and later housed various dignitaries, the exhibition is divided into six curated universes. Each universe is inspired by a different aspect of Singapore’s unique Peranakan culture, inviting esteemed guests to experience a poetic connection between nature, culture, and craftsmanship.

Each space was designed around three distinct themes in collaboration with local artisans, offering guests a truly immersive experience. These salons provide a unique opportunity to explore one-of-a-kind creations in an environment that celebrates Cartier’s artistry and savoir-faire.

As we wandered through the rooms, each telling a story of Singapore, we encountered Thrill, where the island breeze seems to carry grains of sand across curved walls, rendered in textures that celebrate nature’s perfect imperfections. Rising from this landscape are towering Super Flowers—magnificent forms handcrafted in rattan, reflecting both the organic craftsmanship of the region and the iconic symbols of Singapore’s urban landscape.

Drawing from Singapore’s architectural vernacular, the room reimagines angular lines and geometric silhouettes, as Cartier’s High Jewellery codes blend harmoniously with the island’s iconic landscape. Photo by Cartier

In the Treasures room, the architectural language of Singapore is reinterpreted with rattan pebbles, while the orchid—Singapore’s beloved national flower—gracefully rests within this crafted terrain. This space exemplifies a refined interplay of nature and structure, transforming the urban jungle into a canvas of beauty.

Shapes of Water pays tribute to the surrounding waters of the island, with artistic installations that subtly reflect this theme. As light interacts with these creations, an abundance of sparkles emerges, showcasing the brilliance of Cartier’s diamonds.

To ensure a deep connection with the local flavours in the design and décor, Cartier collaborated with local artisans to conceptualise each room. Onlewo, known for its patterned designs inspired by Singapore’s culture, partnered with artist Mike Tay. His contemporary interpretations of heritage and local culture connect people and memories while sparking new passions. For the salons, Mike crafted unique fabrics for soft furnishings, using playful colours and combinations to highlight the many facets of Singapore.

Hazlee Suip from Rooma is celebrated for its handmade rattan and wood furnishings, crafted by skilled Indonesian artisans. Their work embodies the local culture and craftsmanship, aligning with Cartier’s design philosophy of creating enduring pieces.

Cartier commissioned sisters Swee Lin and Swee May from Maneknya to create a bespoke batik print that cleverly conceals the collection’s Fauna. This print is featured on cushion covers and silk square wall art in three colourways, adding a unique touch to the final chapter of Nature Sauvage. Batik prints, an essential part of Singapore’s textile heritage, draw inspiration from nature, mythology, and cultural traditions, showcasing the abundant flora and fauna of Singapore alongside geometric motifs that resonate with the Maison’s distinct aesthetic.
