Heart of a racer: the Corvette Stingray

By Weixian Low 5 December, 2025

Seven decades after it defined American performance, Corvette has officially arrived in Singapore, led by the mid-engined Stingray

Few badges in motoring carry the cultural heft of Corvette. Born in 1953 and evolved through eight generations, it has defined how the world understands American performance. Having officially debuted the Stingray, its first right-hand drive model in 2020, the marque’s arrival in Singapore marks yet another milestone that folds our city into its longstanding narrative of speed and self-belief.

Across the decades, Corvette has held the longest continuously produced passenger car nameplate, remaining a constant through shifting tastes and advancing technologies. Each generation marked a leap—from the early roadsters of Harley-Earl glamour to the aero-sculpted machines that conquered road courses and hearts alike. The eighth generation, known as the C8, was the boldest move yet: a mid-engined layout that redefined traction, visibility, and the tactile poise felt through the seat of one’s pants.

The lore runs deep. Astronauts favoured Corvettes; racers took them to victory at Le Mans, Daytona, and Sebring; Hollywood and Main Street turned them into shorthand for freedom. To drive one is to join that story. And now, Singapore gets to write its own chapter.

Meet the Stingray

Distributed by Alpine Motors, General Motors’ sole authorised dealer in Singapore, Corvette’s entry arrives with full factory backing and a dedicated showroom. First teased in May, the programme gained momentum with the local debut of the Stingray and a series of public engagements, culminating in a flagship space at 1 Commonwealth Lane. It is a thoughtful set-up for an equally considered car.

The Stingray occupies a sweet spot in the modern Corvette family: pure, naturally aspirated drama paired with everyday civility. At its heart is the LT2, an all-aluminium 6.2-litre V8 capable of 495 horses and 636 Nm of torque, good for a century sprint of 2.9 seconds.

The mid-mounted engine sits just behind the cabin, loading the rear tyres for traction and gifting a 40:60 front-to-rear weight balance. The result is a clean, confidence-building pace, underscored by an unmistakably American soundtrack.

Singaporean Stingrays come standard with the Z51 package; exactly what enthusiasts ask for. Expect uprated brakes and cooling, a performance final drive, an electronic limited-slip differential, aggressive front splitters and rear spoiler, a performance exhaust, and track-tuned suspension. This is a road machine that reads the tarmac in real time, delivering grip when you want it, and compliance when you need it.

That duality—weekend hero, weekday civilised—is the essence of the modern Corvette.

Outside, the canopy-forward silhouette borrows cues from fighter jets and Formula One. Broad intake tunnels carve the flanks, while a 3.2mm glass panel on the rear hatch frames the V8 block like a museum piece and vents heat. It is purposeful yet deliciously dramatic.

And inside, performance meets poise. The cockpit wraps around the driver with intent. A squared-off steering wheel ensures clear sight lines to a 12-inch digital cluster that morphs with drive modes, accompanied by an eight-inch touchscreen angled towards the pilot. A 14-speaker Bose Performance Series system comes standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a head-up display.

Materials are properly premium: hand-wrapped, cut- and-sewn leather with bold press-stitching. Ergonomics are distinctly motorsport, with every major control falling exactly where the hands expect.

Then there is the feature every curious driver will try at least once: the built-in Performance Data Recorder. Part dash-cam, part telemetry tool, it overlays video with speed, g-loads, throttle, and braking data, ideal for perfecting lines on the track or refining smoothness on your favourite roads.

Supercar stance

Corvette’s genius lies in blending supercar looks with real-world practicality. The Stingray offers two luggage compartments, which are capable of accommodating weekend bags or a pair of golf sets. More than a road rocket obsessed with lap times, it is a machine designed for living well with a thoroughbred.

The marque’s arrival in Singapore expands the conversation about performance cars. Here is an authentically American perspective in a field dominated by Europeans and increasingly electrified narratives. It delivers exotic-grade engineering and theatre with generous standard equipment. With its debut akin to the opening of a door, step through, and you will find a legend redefined for modern roads, carrying the weight of history and the thrill of unfiltered adrenaline.
