After an ambitious one-year overhaul, Langkawi’s top resort is back with so much more to love, including one of the largest villas of its kind in Asia
The long wait is (almost) over as The Datai Langkawi finally nears the completion of its 12-month renovation. While we’ve yet to pay a visit, this resort will definitely be added to our list of luxury getaways near Singapore. So, what can we expect after the resort’s one-year hiatus?
Well-loved Surroundings
The 10-million-year-old rainforest that the property is nestled in, and the world-renowned Datai Bay, which it overlooks, remain unspoilt as overhaul efforts made sure it had little impact on its natural surroundings.
This was made possible by Paris-based design studio DL2A, which was responsible for the original interior designs back in 1993; guests who fell in love with the Datai Langkawi’s old interiors and architecture will return to discover a new-found love.
New Villas
One of the highlights would be the added Rainforest Pool Villas. All three villas are located along the Datai river that runs through the 750-hectare rainforest. Their impressive decks and pools overlook crystal clear waters, promising Instagram-trending snaps.
Another accommodation to look out for is the new Datai Estate, claiming to be one of the largest villas of its kind in Asia (it’s 3,500sqm) with five bedrooms, a games room, large living and dining areas and two 20m pools. The space is best for family holidays or large parties, given that it comes with its own 24-hour butler service and private chef.
Keep an extra eye for the new lobby with its dramatic landscaping, and you will see the efforts to pay homage to the rich environment, further exalted by a dedicated Nature Centre run by a team of naturalists and marine biologists.
Datai Spa
This brings us to the Datai Spa, which has concocted an exclusive scent, along with amenities produced with Langkawi rainforest elements. Look forward to the use of surrounding flora and herbs during therapy as you indulge in The Datai’s signature open air treatment villas.
Another noteworthy addition to the spa is the opening of a beauty studio by French podiatrist and famed celebrity pedicurist Bastien Gonzalez, his first in Malaysia.
The soft opening is scheduled for September, and while you may witness finishing touches taking place, you get 20 per cent off your stay from 15 September to 15 December.
