The Devialet Mania Palais Garnier 150 Years Limited Edition is striking to the eye and ear

When we got our hands on the Devialet Mania Fendi Edition last year, we appreciated its booming, full-bodied sound, clad in a stylish exterior. It should come as no surprise. Devialet has a flair for dressing solid acoustic engineering in sharp design, often through limited editions that borrow cultural weight.

Now, the Parisian audio house has unveiled another. The latest of these is the Mania Palais Garnier 150 Years Limited Edition, created to mark the anniversary of Paris’s famed opera house. Opened in 1875, the Palais Garnier is one of France’s most important architectural and cultural landmarks: a cornerstone of the Second Empire style and a symbol of the country’s operatic and balletic heritage. Its grand staircase, frescoed ceilings, and gold leaf interiors have become shorthand for theatrical opulence.

Devialet translates this heritage onto the Mania through a deep crimson exterior that references the Palais Garnier’s velvet seats and curtains. The matching Cocoon case in tonal fabric, gold zipper, and tassel adds to this effect while the speaker itself sports the Opéra National de Paris logo appears on the woofer, bordered by a gold ring engraved with the edition name.

An undeniable head-turner, the speaker shares the same internal structure as the standard Mania: four full-range drivers, two woofers in push-push configuration, and four microphones for real-time room calibration. In our 2024 sound test, we found the full-range drivers delivered exceptionally clear, full-bodied sound without muddying across frequencies. Especially impressive is Devialet’s proprietary technology—Active Stereo Calibration—which uses the onboard microphones to adapt the sound profile in real time based on the room’s layout. Paired with SAM (Speaker Active Matching), it allows the speaker to produce deep, tight bass and maintain stereo imaging even in acoustically difficult environments.

With an established sonic performance and cultural flair, the Mania Palais Garnier exudes the kind of sophistication we’ve come to expect from Devialet. And if you’re a fan of Parisian theatricality, well, it might be the only speaker that fits both the ear and eye.
