More than just another fancy seaside destination, Esencia is a US$2.5 billion project due to be the Caribbean‘s largest solar-powered luxury resort community. Set to open on Puerto Rico’s southwest coast this late 2029, the Reuben Brothers and Three Rules Capital development will operate independently from municipal systems, while generating surplus power to support the island’s local grid.
Anchored by Mandarin Oriental, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts and more to come, Esencia will bring together 500 hotel rooms and suites and 1,200 private residences overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Across 809 hectares of real estate with almost five kilometres of tranquil beaches, it will be a catalyst for economic growth, generating over US$7 billion in the long run.
Guided by a master plan from Puerto Rico’s Álvarez-Díaz & Villalón in collaboration with global landscape architecture firm EDSA, Esencia gently weaves world-class design with the tropical landscape. Over 75 per cent of the place will be dedicated to conservation and green spaces. More than 13 hectares of wetlands will be restored and bird habitats will have room to grow.
