Perpetual legacy: H. Moser & Cie. commemorates 70 years of Sincere Fine Watches

By Special Feature 10 July, 2024

The independent watch marque pays a fitting tribute with an artful 20-piece limited edition watch

Though Sincere Fine Watches and H. Moser & Cie. are borne of different times and hail from different cultures, a thread of tenacity, courage, and vision runs through both companies’ ascent.

Singapore’s oldest luxury watch retailer, Sincere Fine Watches, started as a humble venture in 1954, and is now one of Asia’s leading retailers and distributors of the world’s top watch brands. H. Moser & Cie., on the other hand, is a 196-year-old Swiss watch brand that endured multiple challenges before being revitalised in 2012 to re-establish itself as one of independent watchmaking’s most exciting names.

As Sincere Fine Watches marks its 70th anniversary this year, H. Moser & Cie. is paying homage to the horological retail titan the way it knows best—with a stunning and exclusive timepiece in the form of the Pioneer Perpetual Calendar Concept MD Purple Enamel Sincere Platinum Jubilee Edition. And in doing so, H. Moser & Cie., too, expresses a sense of its iconoclastic horological spirit that similarly fuels Sincere Fine Watches.

Limited to 20 pieces, the commemorative edition employs the Pioneer Perpetual Calendar Concept MD watch, which H. Moser & Cie. launched in 2019, as a canvas. The timepiece features one of the brand’s most distinguished complications—a modern and minimalistic perpetual calendar that is unlike anything on the market.

Doing away with traditional calendar displays, H. Moser & Cie.’s perpetual calendars instead feature extremely pared-down dials with subtle indicators. On the Pioneer Perpetual Calendar Concept MD Purple Enamel Sincere Platinum Jubilee Edition, the leap years are indicated via a wheel on the back of the beautifully decorated movement—visible via an open case back—while the month and date are displayed via two windows at three o’clock (hence the ’MD’ suffix, which stands for ‘month’ and ‘date’).

While H. Moser & Cie. takes a less-is-more approach with the perpetual calendar displays, the opposite is true when it comes to augmenting the movement’s performance. The HMC 808 hand-wound manufacture calibre with twin barrels powers the watch, offering at least seven days of power reserve on a full wind. It is also equipped with the brand’s innovative “Flash Calendar” function, enabling an instantaneous date change at midnight. For ease of use, one can also set the date whenever he wishes, either forwards or backwards, without fear of damaging the movement.

Encased in a 42.8mm red gold case with black DLC-treated titanium inserts—the sporty yet regal finery is a signature of the Pioneer collection—the watch brandishes an utterly mesmerising purple dial. The gradated tones of the fumé dial, also a H. Moser & Cie. signature aesthetic, are achieved by way of an enamelling technique known as grand feu.

Translated to mean “high fire” in French, grand feu enamel dials are laborious work of art. The enameller first concocts a mixture of enamel powder and water, and applies it on the dial, which is then baked in a furnace that goes up to 800°C. The process is repeated multiple times until the artisan is satisfied with the colour. As a result, all grand feu enamel dials are imbued with rich and lasting hues that cannot be replicated, and no two are ever identical.

Bold, refined and uncompromisingly unique, the Pioneer Perpetual Calendar Concept MD Purple Enamel Sincere Platinum Jubilee Edition is an earnest and exceptional tribute to a legacy of excellence by Asia’s leading purveyor of luxury watch retail. And fittingly, by one of independent contemporary watchmaking’s brightest sparks.

The 20-piece H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer Perpetual Calendar Concept MD Purple Enamel Sincere Platinum Jubilee Edition is available at all Sincere Fine Watches Boutiques with a retail price of SGD $130,000 (including GST).
