Explore The Macallan House Singapore through meticulously designed immersive spaces, each promising a harmonious fusion of sensory encounters to highlight The Macallan’s relationship with nature
Following the debut of The Macallan Experience in October 2020, it was only a matter of time before we saw Raffles Hotel Singapore welcome the exceptional single malt Scotch whisky with its own official turf. From an exclusive immersive exhibition to 279sqm of retail space that showcases the best of art, nature and whisky craftsmanship, The Macallan House Singapore delivers nothing short of a multisensory journey.
Designed by acclaimed architect Jamie Fobert, who is known for his work on the historic Fondaco dei Tedeschi in Venice, the space expresses the brand’s essence through contemporary interiors. Sights and senses are teased with the four distinct microclimates of The Macallan Estate in Scotland: the barley field, the River Spey, the woodland and Easter Elchies House.
The design codes also pay tribute to the brand’s foundational elements, such as the copper walls representing The Macallan’s small stills; Albariza Stone celebrating the fertile soil from Jerez la Frontera, Spain, which is well-known for its sherry vineyards; and waved walls resembling the River Spey, which inspired the distinctive distillery roof. The most tell-tale sign of all would naturally be the oak flooring—a homage to the sherry-seasoned oak casks that are indispensable to whisky making.
The space wouldn’t be complete without The Macallan Bar. Here, guests can explore the art of infusion and how casks slowly impart their flavour into whisky, influencing its natural colour. Guests can use the one-of-a-kind Amberometer to discover the whiskies’ infinite range of natural colours that are imparted through such oak maturation.
Classic whisky cocktails and a launch menu called The Spirit of 1926 are available, on top of the extensive collection of limited-edition and core-range single malt whiskies offered in tasting flights or fine-dining experiences. Ongoing services such as gift-wrapping, bottle engraving and guided tours come alongside a curated portfolio of lifestyle accessories.
Unique to The Macallan House Singapore are collaborations with local artists Nathan Yong and Tiffany Loy. Designer Yong created the bespoke sculpture that greets visitors upon entering. The visual statement of green onyx holds The Macallan M Collection, key to the Six Pillars as the foundation illuminating The Macallan’s signature direction. Similarly lending her creativity to the brand is textile artist Loy, whose specialised works in weaving have been exhibited at galleries including Singapore Art Museum and La Triennale di Milano. The inspiration for her woven fabric mural of silk and wool needs no guesswork as it’s immediately obvious that it comes from the whisky’s amber hue; a token of the brand’s commitment towards the natural colour of its product.
“The Macallan House is unlike anything we have unveiled before. [It is] a unique place that captures our unwavering commitment to uncompromised excellence and brings to life the innovation, creativity and connection to nature which have been at the heart of The Macallan for nearly 200 years,” shares creative director Jaume Ferràs.
The Macallan House Singapore is much more than just a whisky boutique. Whether its guests are devoted whisky enthusiasts or individuals who are looking to explore the world of single malt Scotch whisky, this remarkable establishment promises an unforgettable adventure in savouring The Macallan’s whisky-making legacy in the heart of Singapore.
