Auctioned IWC chronograph worn by Lewis Hamilton raises US$254,000 for charity

All proceeds from the auction will go to the Laureus Foundation Switzerland

Formula 1 fever may have subsided in Singapore, but it seems other parts of the world are still feeling the heat. At the Laureus Charity Night in Zurich, IWC Schaffhausen, together with Bonhams, auctioned off a special timepiece: a Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team worn by Lewis Hamilton during his ninth British Grand Prix this year.

The 41mm timepiece, first released in 2023, sports a glossy black dial that’s elegantly framed by a robust case made from the brand’s proprietary Ceratanium alloy. As one might expect, the watch boasts racing-inspired elements, including a ceramic bezel with a tachymeter scale that lets the wearer determine the average speed over a reference distance of 1000 metres.

Auctioned alongside a pair of signed racing gloves from Lewis Hamilton, the timepiece garnered around US$254,000 after final biddings were done live at the event. As the name of the event suggests, all proceeds from the sale will go to the Laureus Foundation Switzerland, a branch of Laureus Sport for Good aiming to improve the lives of children and young people through sport.

This, of course, isn’t the first time IWC Schaffhausen has supported the organisation. A long time partner of Laureus Sport for Good since 2005, the brand has consistently participated in the organisation’s annual charity night, donating a unique timepiece each time.

While it’s still too early to speculate on which watch will grace next year’s auction, we’re positive it’ll raise yet more funds for the noble cause.
