Kering expands its generation award to jewellery with Kering Generation Award x Jewelry

By Amos Chin 20 November, 2024

The conglomerate, in partnership with CIBJO–the World Jewellery Confederation, launches “Kering Generation Award x Jewelry,” pushing sustainability and innovation in haute joaillerie

Jewellery houses, Boucheron, Pomellato, and Qeelin, alongside the scientific coordination of Poli.Design–Politecnico di Milano, will launch an international contest among 10 world-renowned universities, academies with courses on jewellery and sustainability, and start-ups already active in jewellery.

“Extending our Kering Generation Awards to jewellery is a pivotal moment in our commitment to advancing sustainability and innovation in the jewellery industry,” says Marie-Claire Daveu, Kering’s chief sustainability and institutional affairs officer. Professor Alba Cappellieri, head of jewelry at Politecnico di Milano and scientific coordinator of the Awards, continues, “By bringing together young talents from leading academical institutions worldwide and start-ups, we are creating a collaborative platform that celebrates creativity and sustainability.”

Reimagining waste through jewellery design

Under the evocative theme “Second Chance, First Choice,” the inaugural Kering Generation Award X Jewelry challenges participants to rethink the concept of waste, turning it into an opportunity for artistic innovation and sustainable craftsmanship. Entrants are encouraged to design a piece—or an entire collection—that elevates discarded materials into treasures, showcasing the transformative power of creativity.

Each participating institution will submit at least three projects, with students working under the guidance of local professors to refine their concepts. Simultaneously, start-ups will bring forward their own pioneering solutions. All submissions will be judged by an expert panel, with four finalists selected to present their work at JCK, one of the jewellery industry’s premier trade events, in June 2025.

Celebrating innovation and responsibility

The Kering Generation Award X Jewelry is dedicated to supporting visionary talents who excel in sustainable design and innovative jewellery-making practices. By creating an international network of students and start-ups, the initiative aims to inspire transformative change in the industry.

Through this award, Kering reaffirms its commitment to nurturing creativity, fostering responsible innovation, and driving meaningful impact in the jewellery sector. It also underscores the group’s mission to pave the way for a future where sustainability and luxury go hand in hand.
