A Joopiter sale of the designer’s rarest treasures will benefit the World Land Trust
Spring is nearly upon us, and with the change of season, one of two desires naturally emerges: the urge to purge or the craving to acquire something new. Should you fall into the latter category and find yourself bored with retail offerings, consider one of the year’s most unique auctions, which will see designer Kim Jones unload some of his rarest treasures on Joopiter, Pharrell Williams’s digital auction platform, in benefit of the World Land Trust.
With tenures at Louis Vuitton, Dior, and Fendi (to name but a few), Jones boasts an enviable collection that’s not at all limited to his former employers. Other treasures include an “inside out” floral frock from Maison Martin Margiela and a Helmut Lang ribbon dress. Sneakerheads should also take note with a deadstock pair of Dior x Nike Air Jordan 1 High Sneakers numbered 0001/8500 up for grabs. The collaboration, which debuted at the Dior Men’s pre-fall 2020 show at Miami’s Rubell Museum, marked a pivotal moment in the elevation of street style.
“Kim is a brilliant excavator of history and a prognosticator of the future,” said Williams in a press release. “What sets him apart is his understanding that true luxury is at the heart of culture. He’s building more than just fashion; he’s creating a platform for artists, including myself, to step in and be part of this journey.”
For the fashion archivists-at-heart, many of the auction items (the sale began on 27 February and runs through 11 March 2025) are design prototypes and one-of-a-kind samples. Among them: an original painting by Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama, with whom Jones collaborated in 2018 for the Dior Men’s pre-fall 2019 collection, and a Dior seed embroidered shirt from pre-fall 2021 depicting a Kenny Scharf artwork. It should be enough to satiate Jones’s fans while he plots his next move.
For the next couple of weeks, at least, Jones is busy trying to save the planet. “Upon reading the sobering news that the world’s wild vertebrate population has declined by 73 per cent since 1970, I felt compelled to take action,” said Jones in a press statement. “Through Joopiter’s global auction platform, I am auctioning some ofmy most cherished pieces in support of the World Land Trust, helping to protect critical ecosystems for future generations—a cause that has always been deeply important to me.”
