Ninety out of the 1,000 high-end bottles will be available here
It has taken a while, as premium cognac are wont to do, but the L’Or de Jean Martell – Réserve du Château de Chanteloup has arrived. And, though worth celebrating, we are not just referring to its anticipated availability in this region, finally making its way to Singapore two months after its launch in New York.
The L’Or de Jean Martell – Réserve du Château de Chanteloup was conceived seven years ago, crafted from a blend comprising 1,400 eau-de-vie from four crus of the Cognac region, some as old as 100 years. And to arrive at its distinct flavour profile, the blend was aged in lightly toasted 300-year-old oak barrels, the casks resting in the historic home of the Martell family, Château de Chanteloup, in north-western France. As we attested, good things are worth waiting for.
The blend was created by cellar master Christophe Valtaud, the ninth person to hold this title in Martell’s 300-year history. Valtaud said that instead of concocting new flavours, he sought to change “the mindset” behind the L’Or de Jean Martell line of cognacs, described by the house as the “quintessence” of Martell cognacs.
The L’Or de Jean Martell collection is created from eaux-de-vie from both the Grande Champagne and Borderies areas, and is distinguished by its complex aroma and taste of caramel, dark fruit and spice, with that lingering rancio note characteristic of great cognacs. The L’Or de Jean Martell – Réserve du Château de Chanteloup marks a new expression of the collection. As with this series, subsequent bespoke cognac blends from the collection will be released annually in partnership with a prestigious French château, each capturing a different facet of the Martell cognac.
The Reserve du Chateau de Chanteloup cognac is housed in a gorgeous crystal decanter created by Baccarat. The elegantly bulbous vessel shaped like a giant drop of liquid, evoking a single and precious drop of the spirit. It comes in a lovely wooden box, which comes with a product booklet, that details the making of the L’Or de Jean Martell – Réserve du Château de Chanteloup.
Priced at S$9,888, only 1,000 bottles will be produced, of which 90 are made available for the Singapore market. For Martell aficionados, the wait, we are happy to report, is officially over.
