Maserati unveils one-of-one all-electric convertible to celebrate Tignanello wine

By Low Weixian 12 July, 2024

This unique GranCabrio Folgore was built for one sole purpose: an ode to 50 years of Tignanello, one of Italy’s finest wines

The first, and only, of its kind, Maserati has unveiled its latest unique creation–the GranCabrio Folgore Tignanello.

In collaboration with Marchesi Antinori, the Modena-based marque developed a customised Fuoriserie iteration of the latest GranCabrio Folgore to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Tignanello wine. The GranCabrio is a manifestation of a tailored balance between raw track-bred engineering and fine Italian elegance, and this bespoke example epitomises a driving experience that is made more sublime and distinctive “the way an outstanding wine can at the table”.

The sleek body of this open-top beauty is finished in Terra di Tignanello, a chestnut-like metallic paint inspired by the vineyard’s soil. This bespoke shade is complemented by copper badging, black rims, and a black soft top. Inside the cabin, romantic details await; a quartet of leather seats are embellished with a multi-material silver and burgundy-ribbed weave made from Vegea, an innovative spreadable material derived from the vineyards. This material, making its first-ever appearance in a Maserati car, looks and feels just like leather.

The claims of the GranTurismo Folgore being the fastest battery-powered convertible isn’t unbacked: the tri-motor powertrain churns out a neck-breaking 818 hp and 1350 Nm, capable of a century sprint in just 2.8 seconds.

“This collaboration with Marchesi Antinori gives us the opportunity to epitomise the essence of Bespoke production, the flagship of our Maserati Fuoriserie customisation programme,” says Klaus Busse, head of design at Maserati. “Telling a story of Italian excellence is a source of pride for us and serves as constant stimulus for our work; Bespoke production aspires to create something absolutely dedicated and inimitable.”

For those who are looking to own this one-of-one open-top speed machine, it’s now or never. The Maserati GranTurismo Folgore Tignanello is due to hit auction blocks at the Arts for All Gala in California this 14 July, with sales proceeds going to charity. No estimate has been provided at the moment, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see the hammer coming down for a price higher than its standard starting price.
