Developed by Slate Property Group in partnership with Avenue Realty Capital, The Katharine would be the celebrity interior designer’s first-ever residential development project, and his most personal work to date. Situated on a tree-lined street in Greenwich Village, a neighbourhood on the west side of Lower Manhattan, it belongs to a place that he has called home for over 20 years.

The seven-storey building was originally designed by renowned architect Benjamin Wistar Morris. Photo by The Katharine

Originally constructed in 1930, the building served as one of several early 20th-century women’s residences, designed to offer independent living to female professionals coming to New York City for work and education. It was first designed by renowned architect Benjamin Wistar Morris, whose past projects include the Union League Club on Park Avenue and the Cunard Building.

The Katharine has been restored to its former glory, with the exterior refreshed by BKSK architects to preserve its original character, and its intimate collection of eight residences carefully restored and reimagined by Berkus. Honouring the building’s rich history and the charm of the Village, each home embodies the enduring elegance of classic pre-war architecture. Taking advantage of the building’s unique architecture, units unfold with unexpected touches such as custom millworker, stone flooring patterns, vintage Italian lighting and large south-facing windows. Select homes will have a custom marble fireplace, private outdoor terrace and direct elevator access.

Residents will also enjoy a 24-hour attended lobby, landscaped rooftop terrace with expansive views, a fitness studio with a yoga terrace, and private storage units.

The Katharine is located on 118 West 13th Street, #1, New York, NY 10011. More information here.
