The exclusive Omega Paris 2024 Bronze Gold Edition is a winning collectible
There is perhaps no watch brand that is more synonymous with the Olympic Games than Omega. The official timekeeper of the world’s biggest sporting showcase since 1932, the Swiss watchmaking giant will be at it again at the Paris 2024 Olympics this July, timing 329 Olympic events across 32 sports.
While Omega will be shipping over 350 tonnes of its most state-of-the-art timing equipment to France to ensure that the competitions run with unerring precision, the watch company hasn’t forgotten about its own fans, who, as they do with every Olympic Games, are hankering for a special edition timepiece.
They didn’t have to wait long. Omega has just dropped the Paris 2024 Bronze Gold Edition, a heritage-inspired commemorative watch that evokes the glory of podium finishes at the Olympic Games.
Amalgamating three of the competitive sport’s most recognised materials—gold, silver, and bronze—the Paris 2024 Bronze Gold Edition infuses sporting poetry with dressy, throwback appeal. The 39mm case is crafted in Omega’s proprietary Bronze Gold (a radiant and hypoallergenic alloy that is more lasting and refined than regular bronze), the dial is made from Ag 925 silver, and the slender hands are made of 18K Sedna Gold—another proprietary Omega gold alloy—with special PVD Bronze Gold coating.
Other nods to the Olympic Games can be found on the caseback, which is engraved with the words ‘BG 859’, referring to ‘Bronze Gold’ and the reference number of the vintage watch it took inspiration from (the CK 859 from 1939). Accompanying the inscription is a stamped and frosted image of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 medallion.
Complementing the design accents that echo the spirit of the Olympic Games is the watch’s nostalgic allure. The unisex case size not only fits most wrists comfortably but harks back to the dimensions of 1980s dress watches. Elsewhere, the traditional Clous de Paris pattern decorates the dial, alongside a vintage-style Omega logo.
The movement that powers the watch, though, is a resolutely modern engine: the hand-wound Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8926, which is incredibly precise and robust, with the ability to repel up to 50,000 gauss of magnetic interference. If watch collecting were a competitive sport, the Omega Paris 2024 Bronze Gold Edition would no doubt lend you an edge with both style and substance.
