Man with Drive
Golf professional, licensed boat captain, certified PADI diver, economics graduate, CEO and managing director of Laguna National golf and country club: when Patrick Bowers says that what motivates him is “getting things done”, it’s easy to believe.
A veteran of the lifestyle and resort business, including 10 years with global sports agency IMG/WME, which included working with Tiger Woods on his branding and golf course design business, he joined Laguna National in 2010.
We are constructing the five-star Dusit Thani Laguna Singapore directly connected to two championship golf courses. We are just completing and reopening both of our golf courses coming off of major redesign and renovations. These projects top S$200 million in investment so they are critical to the company’s future.
It may not sound glamorous, but my most enjoyable way to unwind is to go on a long walk with my Singaporean wife, Laurel, and our dog, Avery. For a fancy night out we love Cut (at Marina Bay Sands). For casual but good Japanese food we stroll over to Itacho in Ion.
When I’m travelling, Aman Tokyo is one of our more recent favourites. Il Sereno on the shores of Lake Como holds a special place in our hearts as we were married there. We love a local hole in the wall in Hong Kong called Australian Dairy Company.
Cars and motorcycles are hobbies. I drive a Porsche Macan GTS. I have owned Harley Davidsons, but covet a Ducati Diavel as my next indulgence.
My wife would tell you I have too many watches. My favourites are my Bell & Ross BR-X1 Carbon Forge and my Hublot Big Bang Tantalum. I would like to add the Tag Heuer V4 Carbon or the Ulysse Nardin Freak Phantom to my collection.
There are never enough wardrobes in the house for clothes. I prefer Giorgio Armani and Ermenegildo Zegna for dress clothes; Alexander McQueen for design. For casual and lifestyle, I adore Lululemon, Under Armour and Ralph Lauren classics.
Our home is modern minimalism. It is decorated with MisuraEmme, Poltrona Frau, Poliform, Poggenpohl, Antonio Lupi and custom commissioned pieces. But we only buy on sale!
My greatest influences are my wife Laurel, who is always smiling and positive. So is Russ Howard, a world champion and Olympian in the sport of curling (a Canadian thing), who was my first boss and mentor.
