Pharrell Williams teams up with Tyler, the Creator on a Louis Vuitton capsule collection

Louis Vuitton’s line of preppy menswear will be released globally on 21 March 2024

Louis Vuitton’s latest collab could be mistaken for a Coachella lineup.

Pharrell Williams and Tyler, the Creator have joined forces to create a men’s capsule collection for the French fashion house. Williams, who was named men’s creative director at LV last February, has been building a community of LVERS (read: artists and creatives) to help him keep designs fresh and exciting. Tyler was an obvious recruit. The two rappers have worked together for years and both have a knack for avant-garde dressing. (Tyler has also previously teamed up with LV, composing the soundtrack for its fall-winter men’s show in 2022.)

The standalone spring collection combines LV’s signature savoir-faire with Tyler’s preppy style and Pharrell’s brilliantly idiosyncratic tastes. “There are so many elements specific to Tyler built into these pieces and it’s been inspiring to see him hone in on his craft and collaborate with him for this Spring collection,” Pharrell said in a statement.

The cornerstone of the capsule is the new Craggy Monogram, aka Tyler’s hand-drawn take on the house’s famous monogram from 1896. “My main focus was making things I would wear all the time,” explained Tyler. “I dress the same in a meeting as I do a performance or grocery store trip, so hand drawing the monogram felt like the perfect balance to me.”

The line also showcases the pastel hues and liquified textures that one might stumble across in a patisserie. (Tyler reportedly has quite the sweet tooth.) It includes a chocolate down jacket, vanilla windbreaker, custard raincoat, and strawberry fair-isle vest, for instance. Daisies and Airedale Terriers have been incorporated into some pieces, too, as an homage to Tyler’s penchant for flowers.

Reflecting the hip-hop heavyweight’s own wardrobe, the line comprises collegiate knitwear, preppy blousons, dandy-esque shirts, and classic chinos. It also includes golf-inspired pieces decked out in Damier and a Courrier Lozine 110 trunk emblazoned with the Craggy Monogram. Priced at about US$73,500, the special-edition trunk is the most expensive piece in the collection. That’s not exactly surprising given Tyler’s love of luxury luggage.

Other highlights include loafers, trainers, a bucket hat, and a chunky metal chain. You’ll even find a cereal bowl and pet accessories. Tyler’s personal favorite is the travel chessboard, though. “The chessboard is one of the greatest things I’ve made and is definitely my favourite thing from the collection,” he concludes. “The team was great to work with, it kinda felt like Big with Tom Hanks. P has always left a door open for me, but I still can’t believe this one.”

The capsule will be released globally on 21 March 2024.
