Building on the success following previous editions of Culinary Masters—a RR1 members-only event—MGM and Robb Report Hong Kong bring the dining extravaganza to MGM COTAI in Macau from 10 to 13 August 2023. Showcasing only the best fine-dining experiences helmed by the culinary scene’s brightest stars, the gastronomic celebration will also be elevated by thoughtful discourse.
RR1 Culinary Masters 2023 takes place shortly after the United Nation’s observance of Sustainable Gastronomy Day on 18 June 2023. In alignment with this, all of the attending chefs have penned their empirical thoughts on redefining the future of gastronomy, and will present meals that centre around the theme, The Flavours of Tomorrow, Savouring the Future.
Macau, recognised as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, is home to vibrant culinary cultures. Meanwhile. host hotel MGM COTAI, which boasts architecture that resembles a jewellery box, is the only mega complex in Macau. Both the city and the hotel set the stage for unforgettable culinary extravaganza that promises to inspire both the chefs and their guests.
Heading the star-studded lineup of culinary talents is Italian chef Massimo Bottura of three-Michelin-starred Osteria Francescana in Modena. His team’s efforts have also been recognised with a Michelin green star for measures against food waste and received high honours of being named The World’s Best Restaurant, twice.
Other prominent names include Yim Jung-sik and Shane Osborn. Yim, who helms his two-Michelin-starred restaurant, Jungsik, in Seoul and New York, is a pioneering force behind modern Korean fine dining. Osborn, who is behind Arcane, a Michelin-starred restaurant in Hong Kong, is famed for being an advocate of plant-based cuisine and sustainable dining.
Macau’s resident stars, too, are stepping up to the plate at Culinary Masters 2023. Flying the flag for Chengdu-Sichuan cuisine is Yang Dengquan, chef de cuisine of Five Food Road at MGM COTAI, recently honoured with one Michelin star. Also gracing the event is Homan Tsui, chef de cuisine of Imperial Court at MGM MACAU, and Palmira Pena, a highly acclaimed chef who is known for reinterpreting Macanese and Portuguese cuisine.
