“Humility is often a greater strength than certainty.” – Gillian Tee
Nearly a decade ago, Gillian Tee witnessed firsthand how fragmented and challenging it could be for families to navigate care for their loved ones. “Technology was transforming almost every aspect of our lives,” she reflects. “Yet care remained deeply underserved.” This gap sparked a realisation: by combining technology with compassionate human care, it was possible to create a more accessible, reliable, and scalable way to support individuals and families.
That belief became the foundation of Homage. This technology-enabled care company supports seniors and individuals with complex care and disability needs to live well at home. Tee’s work sits at the intersection of healthcare, technology, and human connection, building solutions that make quality care more accessible while empowering the professionals who provide it.
“Ultimately, I see my role as creating solutions that allow more people to age where they want to, with dignity and independence,” she shares.
Since its founding in 2016, Homage has supported hundreds of thousands of care visits across the region, partnering with governments, hospitals, and community organisations to reshape how care is delivered at home. Yet for the founder, the most meaningful measure of impact lies not only in scale, but in the lives transformed along the way.
What keeps you moving forward when faced with challenges? Perspective. Aged care and disability support is challenging because the work matters. On difficult days, I remind myself that behind every decision is a real person whose life can be improved. That sense of purpose keeps me moving forward.

What is the most important part of your work?
Care is found in the smallest moments: a comforting presence, a meaningful conversation, or simply being there when someone needs support. While technology can make care more accessible and effective, its heart remains deeply human. Our care professionals provide something precious in today’s fast-paced world: their time, attention, and genuine connection. Sometimes, it is the little moments of happiness—and knowing that someone is there for you—that matter most.
Tell us what excites you most about your work.
We’re entering a period where artificial intelligence, data, and digital health can meaningfully augment—not replace—human caregivers. I believe the future isn’t about choosing between technology and compassion. It’s about combining both to deliver more personalised, proactive, and accessible care than ever before.
Think of your favourite people to work with. What quality do they have in common?
Ownership. I admire people who take responsibility beyond their job description—people who care deeply about outcomes, continuously learn, and do the right thing even when no one is watching. Skills can be developed; character is much harder to teach.
What’s one area you’re currently working to strengthen?
I’m still learning to balance compassion with accountability. As a founder, I care deeply about creating an environment where people feel supported and valued, while also holding ourselves to high standards. It means continuing to have honest conversations, recognise progress, and challenge one another to grow. Finding that balance remains an ongoing journey.
Who do you turn to when you need a fresh perspective?
I seek out conversations with people beyond my immediate industry: entrepreneurs, clinicians, business leaders, designers, and community builders. Different perspectives often reveal new possibilities and challenge assumptions. I also value intimate forums such as tech salons, where open dialogue and shared experiences offer fresh insights.
How do you spend your free time?
I enjoy a mix of workouts, spending quality time with family and friends, and travelling. I’m also naturally drawn to impact-driven passion projects outside of work—things that spark curiosity and create meaningful change. It’s this balance of movement, connection, and discovery that helps me recharge, stay inspired, and return with a fresh perspective.
