“Together, we’ve created not just a Singaporean brand on the world stage, but a movement dedicated to advancing sustainable transportation.” – Joshua Goh

If he could have his way, electric mobility would be the standard mode of transportation all over the world, making the planet greener, and road users more attuned to environmental consciousness. And now at the helm of Scorpio Electric, Joshua Goh is realising his dream of an all-electric future—one innovation at a time.

Goh’s introduction to the automotive industry was shaped by his time at EuroSports Global, a family-owned luxury automotive distributor. His tenure as executive of the CEO office, and eventually, deputy CEO, allowed him insights into various business development aspects such as strategic planning and general operations. Goh now leverages this wealth of knowledge as CEO of Scorpio Electric, a pioneering Singaporean company manufacturing high-performance, fully electric motorcycles.

In recent months, Scorpio Electric has been ramping up its efforts and presence. Last November, the company launched its first model, the Scorpio Electric X1, at the prestigious EICMA automobile trade show in Milan. This July, it became the first Singapore-based electric motorcycle manufacturer to be granted a Special Purpose License by the Land Transport Authority for one unit of the Scorpio Electric X1 to conduct comprehensive durability and endurance tests on public roads here.

With plans afoot to appoint distributors in overseas markets, European homologation for the X1, gearing up for mass production, and the development of exciting new concepts in the making, the future looks bright—and green—for Joshua Goh and Scorpio Electric.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice and values that I hold close to my heart are not those of words, but from actions. Growing up, I learnt from my father the importance of discipline, responsibility and passion; he showed me that success in any endeavour requires dedication, and the willingness to take challenges head-on with a positive attitude. My mother had doggedness and relentlessness in pursuing solutions to combat problems she encounters. These values and mindset have been instrumental to my leadership style.

What is a major challenge the electric vehicle industry faces?

One major challenge is the intense competition arising from a market that is quickly saturating. With both emerging brands and established names expanding their repertoire of electric vehicles, staying ahead requires continuous improvement and differentiation from the competition.

To set ourselves apart, we strive towards fostering a culture of innovation within the company as well as building strategic and fruitful partnerships. Research and development is also of utmost importance; only by understanding and anticipating consumer needs would we be able to develop unique solutions that address these demands effectively.

How do you strike a balance between your professional and personal life?

The lines between my professional and personal life tend to blur, as both of them share a symbiotic relationship. Setting clear, effective priorities and following through with a disciplined approach is half the battle won.

Outside of work, I place high emphasis on spending quality time with my family and friends. I also make it a point to carve out some me-time. Self-care for me comes in the form of CrossFit training sessions.

What is one thing that everyone should experience at least once in their life?

I’m a strong advocate of stepping out of one’s comfort zone. Whether it’s venturing out to more obscure or unusual travel destinations, picking up the challenge of a brand-new activity, or even bringing a passion project to fruition, being away from the familiar and taking new challenges head-on guarantees personal growth and self discovery.
