Following a renewed emphasis on coachbuilding, Rolls-Royce is taking things a step further with the Coachbuild Collection, a new by-invite-only proposition that pairs limited-production motor cars with a multi-year world of rarefied experiences
Following our trip to the Rolls-Royce plant in Goodwood last October, where the marque’s reverence for craft was made plain at every turn, this latest announcement feels like the next natural step.
Rolls-Royce has introduced the Coachbuild Collection, a new proposition in super-luxury that brings together a limited-number coachbuilt motor car and a multi-year programme of exclusive experiences. In other words, more than just owning a rare Rolls-Royce, this is about being drawn into the world that shapes it.
The idea, according to the marque, grew from conversations with some of its most design-literate collectors; clients who were less interested in dictating every detail and more intrigued by the idea of seeing what Rolls-Royce would create if left entirely to its own imagination. That freedom, of course, is rooted in the company’s long coachbuilding tradition, which dates back to its earliest days.
Each Coachbuild Collection will be conceived and authored entirely by Rolls-Royce, produced in strictly limited numbers, and never repeated. Entry is by invitation only through the marque’s global Private Office network, with clients granted extraordinary access to the creative and engineering journey behind each car. Think closed testing facilities, visits to inner sanctums usually kept well out of view, and private events in some of the world’s most desirable destinations.
Crucially, these are not static collector’s pieces destined only for climate-controlled garages. Rolls-Royce says every Coachbuild Collection motor car will be fully homologated, road-legal, and built to be driven.
The first of these collections will take the form of a fully electric motor car, a nod to the growing number of Rolls-Royce clients who have embraced the Spectre and the marque’s quieter, more effortless vision of luxury. Full details are expected in April, but even now, the message is clear: Rolls-Royce is crafting an entire universe around rare cars. Until then, all eyes are on April, when Rolls-Royce will reveal the first model in this new Coachbuild Collection.
