Limited to only 2,000 bottles worldwide, Lefebre pays tribute to the great-grandfather who spearheaded Ron Matusalem during Cuba’s Golden Age

Family over everything, most would agree, such as in the world of Ron Matusalem Rum. Marking the start of its Tributes Collection, which is designed to pay homage to key figures of the founding family, is the distillery‘s latest and most exclusive creation, the Lefebre. Limited to only 2,000 bottles worldwide, it pays tribute to Claudio Álvarez Lefebre, the great-grandfather who spearheaded the company during Cuba’s Golden Age. The family-run business is now in its fifth generation, continuing a legacy of rum-making excellence since it founded in 1872.

A major key to Ron Matusalem’s exceptional flavour is its unique solera system, an ageing process derived from the Spanish tradition of Sherry- and brandy-making. Under the guidance of master blender Cynthia Vargas, Lefebre is the result of solera ageing in ex-Bordeaux French oak barrels, resulting in a singular rum of deep amber and an unmatched flavour profile. Think spiced wood, chocolate, bitters and sweet peppers that build up to a long finish, leaving you begging for more.

Each bottle, numbered with a certificate of authenticity and presented in a luxurious case, is beautifully designed to evoke the mastery of wood craftsmanship that has long defined Ron Matusalem. The arched label, emblematic of Cuban colonial architecture, is a nod to the brand’s roots, while the elegant French navy leather collar and its gold button, adds a sweet touch of Art Deco.
